1st Launch Rocket Project - By Devon

On Friday we all started our test launch with our rockets.Me,Hunter and Havin made it we made our rocket with an Sprite bottle , the wings were made with red card and our bottle cone was made out of a bottle but I do not know what bottle it was.Sadly I never watched most of the launch only my and Kobain's groups rocket but lets start with Kobain's it was tilted for some reason and it did not go high but ours went straight and went high.At the end of the day we knew that we did a pretty good job.

My test flight - by Lucy

In My Class we have been learning about rockets. Zeph, Keira and I made a rocket together. we put our names on it and we put a parachute in the nose cone that was made out out a plastic bag. when we did our first launch it flew into the air on the side and the nose cone didn't come off the top so that made the parachute onto work because it did not fill up with air.

My test flight - By Keira

This is my rocket. It has Zeph, Keira, Lucy on it. the fins where on the bottom of the rocket and you can see the shape of them in the photo. We had 3 of them. We had a parachute and it was made from a rubbish bag. We made the nose cone from a sprite bottle. We painted NASA on it. Lucy did all the painting.

Our first test lunch  went really really bad it nearly blew up and our  parachute did not open. I think it was because  we had the nose cone on to hard. We had 60psi and 200ml of water. It was pretty cool and next time I think we should not put the nose cone on too hard.

My Otaki Map

Our class has been learning about mapping using google maps. We have learnt how to locate different places in our community. Here is an example of a map we have created.

First test flight - By Adejah

Yesterday we had our first flight test with our ambassador Lincoln. To launch a the test rocket, we need the following equipment: bike pump, 1.5L Soda bottle, safety, safety glasses, launch,  pressure gage, measuring jug.

The rocket launcher was already assembled so the class went down to the field to with the rocket go off but be went through some procedures to get the rocket launch read.

First, they made sure that the assembled rocket launcher was facing up so it wouldn't hit anything. Second, they got the measuring cup and filled it up with 250ml of water and poured it all into the soda bottle then finally we connected the bottle to the rocket launcher.

Lincon was the one who would press the button so that the rocket would launch and Mrs Williamson did a recording of all the launch attempts while some kids got to pump pressure into the soda bottle.

For the first launch we did 10psi and 250ml of water which didn't launch and had a ten second delay. For the second launch, we did 30psi and 200ml of water and the bottle successfully launched off the launch pad.

For the third launch, we did 45psi and 350ml and it was a successful launch which managed to go higher than the one before. For the last launch, they put 45psi and 350ml and outu of all the rockets that were launched, it was the highest.

The test launches were really fun and I can't wait to see how high the finished rockets will go.

What is an Active Learner in 7&8 SWL?

During Kaiarahi our class has been thinking about 'what is an active learner in 7&8 SWL?'. We have made this poster to display what we believe being an active learner is in 7&8 SWL.
