Welcome to the SWL blog! We are a class of year 7&8 learners at Otaki College. Check out this slide deck introducing who we are. Remember to check back on this blog as we will post work and what we have been doing in class throughout the year.
In week one this term our class completed a Jean Batten escape room challenge! This was full different puzzles and challenges we had to complete in groups and then as a class. It was important that we kept trying no matter how hard it got, just like Jean Batten did in her journeys across the world. Check out the pictures below of us working through these challenges.
This week 7&8 SWL has started designing our rockets. First we each designed our ideal rocket on paper and then spoke with our ambassador about our designs. Next in our groups we put our designs together and started building our prototypes. We are using 1.5L carbonated bottles as the base of our rocket and a range of other recycled materials for the fins, nose cone and decorations.
Here are some photos from our first lesson designing our prototypes.
This term our class is taking part in The Wonder Project. This week we had our ambassador Lincoln come into our class and help us do our first test launch to test out different water levels and air pressures.
